Wild About Racing This is a wonderful account by Derek Wild of…
Eric Bryce 1937 – 2023
It’s been a sad year with the loss of Ian Deans, Ian Scott-Watson and now with the sudden passing of Eric Bryce. All these gentlemen were friends with Jim and could give first hand accounts of his brilliance.
Doug Niven remembers Eric:-
“Eric has been around race tracks all my time with racing cars and today I found one of his photos taken at Ingliston in 1969 of my Anglia which was the first of many that Eric took over all the years that I raced for Border Reivers. I feel lucky to have been involved with him and to witness his photographic expertise over the past 50 years.
Eric became a friend from those early years and was incredibly knowledgeable about any photograph from Jim’s Winfield – Charterhall Border Reivers era and onto his Lotus career in the UK. Eric did not leave the UK (apart from 1 visit to Monaco) but followed all of Jim’s career.
He never lost his enthusiasm in talking about photos taken during Jim Clark’s career and was a human encyclopaedia when talking about all his photos. His attention to detail was a godsend during our collaboration on the “Clark Through the Lens” book of photographs which was launched in June of this year.
This book will be a lasting memorial to Eric.

Latterly he enjoyed spending time reminiscing with his great friends, especially Felix from Belgium , Jurg from Switzerland, David Spry, and the Late Jock Farquharson, and amongst others too many to mention , he spent his later years still attending motor sport events in Duns and elsewhere. He leaves a huge gap in our lives, we all loved to hear his stories, which could only be told in his distinctive style. Sadly his camera will click no more – but the memories in his photographs will live forever”.
Our thoughts are with Eric’s family and friends
